Remembering multiple passwords is a task. And if they land in the wrong hands, you might be at significant risk.
Welcome to a passwordless future. Google has rolled out passkeys - a secure way to sign in to apps and websites.
Passkeys will be an option for all Google Account users who want to try a passwordless sign-in experience.
In 2022, Google, Microsoft, and Apple announced that they would start working on bringing passkey to their platform.
A passkey is a digital credential such as a biometric sensor like fingerprint or facial recognition, PIN, or a pattern.
This technology aims to replace legacy authentication mechanisms, such as passwords, and make the web a safer place.
Passkeys use public key cryptography, reducing potential data breach threats. Even Google can't use them to impersonate users.
Making a new passkey is a quick process. Just head over to myaccount.google.com and navigate to the ‘Security’ tab.
If you use multiple devices like a laptop, phone or tablet, you can create passkeys for every device.
