In a world that sometimes feels inundated with news of strife and division, stories of pure kindness and selflessness serve as a heartwarming reminder that the human spirit is capable of incredible compassion. One such inspiring tale comes from the Northeastern state of Tripura, where a five-year-old girl has captured hearts with her benevolent gesture.
Anusuya Ghosh, a kindergartener at Tripura’s Shishu Bihar School, has become the embodiment of empathy through her voluntary act of hair donation to assist Sanghamitra Shaligram, a 50-year-old cancer patient undergoing treatment at Nagpur National Cancer Institute. The depth of Anusuya’s compassion shines a spotlight on the innate goodness within each of us.
Sanghamitra Shaligram, battling the trials of cancer and the physical toll of chemotherapy, faced the distressing loss of her hair – a common side effect of cancer treatment. Her earnest wish was to undergo a hair transplant, and this plea reached Animesh Ghosh, a resident of Baradowali in Agartala, Tripura, and the father of Anusuya. Animesh Ghosh, with the support of his family, recognized the opportunity to make a profound difference in the life of a stranger.
The Ghosh family took the remarkable step of meticulously cutting their young daughter’s long, flowing locks and then, in an act of unwavering compassion, sent it to Sanghamitra Shaligram.
Seema Chakma, the mother of the five-year-old Anusuya, shared her sentiments on the matter with the media house, stating, “We came to know about the veteran woman undergoing treatment at Nagpur Cancer Institute through a Bangalore-based NGO. We decided to donate our daughter’s long hair for her hair transplantation. We would be grateful if her hair is used for the cancer patient’s hair transplantation.”
When inquired if young Anusuya was eager to assist, Seema expressed her daughter’s enthusiasm for contributing to this noble cause. “My husband and I are engaged in various small-scale social services. Therefore, we decided to take this step, and Anusuya is very eager to donate her hair,” added Seema.
Seema Chakma herself is a National Service Scheme (NSS) program officer and a dedicated schoolteacher at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary. On the other hand, Animesh Ghosh, Anusuya’s father, has actively participated in numerous social service organizations, demonstrating a family deeply committed to acts of kindness and community betterment.
This heartwarming act of benevolence has not gone unnoticed by the community. The Shishu Bihar Alumni Association, recognizing the extraordinary efforts of Anusuya Ghosh and her parents, expressed profound gratitude for their selflessness. Abhijit Samajpati, the Secretary of the Shishu Bihar Alumni Association, commended Anusuya’s unwavering spirit and benevolence, describing them as praiseworthy and setting an inspiring example for others to follow. Samajpati remarked, “The alumni community extends its heartfelt salute to this remarkable young girl.“
Anusuya Ghosh’s compassionate gesture is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of selflessness within our society. It serves as a clarion call to each of us, urging us to look beyond ourselves and extend a helping hand to those in need.
In a world where stories of conflict and division often dominate headlines, Anusuya Ghosh’s act of kindness stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the potential for goodwill and compassion within us all. It serves as a testament to the fact that even the smallest among us can make a profound difference in the lives of others.
