One is never too poor to be devout. It only takes a genuine heart, pure intentions, and good deeds to touch the almighty. This has been proved by a humble woman who begs outside a temple in Karnataka. Whatever scarcity she may face, she has given away her life’s savings to the temple. And this is not just the first time. She had done it once in the past too.
Named Kempamma or Kemapajji, this destitute woman walked into Kote Paatala Anjaneya Temple in Kadur, Chikkamagalur district, Karnataka on Tuesday to hand over 40 Indian currency notes of Rs. 500 each amounting to a total of Rs. 10,000 to Priest Dattu Vasudev.
The 65-year-old is a familiar face to the devotees of Sai Baba in the town as she usually sits outside the temple begging for alms. And that is also why when she entered the Anjaneya (Hanuman) Temple; several people tried to send her away, assuming she had gone to beg from people inside the temple. But she insisted on meeting the head priest or the administrator.
And when she gave the money, the priest was surprised, and he asked her intention. Kempamma said that she had saved the cash to get a silver face mask for the deity, Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman), of the temple. Soon after, the news spread like wildfire, and in no time, people started flocking around Kempajji to click selfies with her. But she was reticent and refused to speak to anyone and left the temple.
Kempajji is usually seen sleeping on the steps of Sai Baba temple or at the town bus stop at night. A local restaurant gives her free meals as a kind gesture.
Her devotion was highly lauded by the temple administration and locals.
May the Lord bless her with good health.
