Humans want a long, and healthy life but only a few manage to attain it despite all the advancements in medical science and available resources around the globe. For a man/woman to live well after 60 or retirement age may be rare as these days there are so many ailments. Yet one man from West Bengal, India not only managed to live till 100 years age but is thriving and he marked his centenary birthday in a very special manner that is winning hearts all over.
One Biswanath Sarkar a farmer from Beniapukur village in Murshidabad district of the state lives in a grand family with his six children, 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren for he’s lived a hundred years. His family wanted to make his birthday memorable. They came up with the idea to arrange the remarriage of Sarkar with his wife who is 90 years old on the same day.
The Sarkar family discussed many ideas but finally agreed upon planning Sarkar and his wife Surodhwani‘s marriage (again). Following this, they planned a gala wedding for the couple on February 16, which is his birthday.
Biswanath and Surodhwani had married about 68 years ago in 1953.
The idea of a remarriage struck when Geeta Sarkar, one of the daughters-in-law of the family, saw something of a similar kind on social media a few months back. Following this, she shared the idea with other family members, and they supported her, she shared with the media.
The Birthday Turned Marriage
The elderly couple’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren live in other states but they returned to the village to celebrate the occasion.
The duo stays at Beniapukur village in Jiaganj, but they also have an ancestral house in Bamunia village, which is about five kilometers away from Beniapukur village. Surodhwani was taken there two days earlier to the wedding, while Biswanath stayed back in Beniapukur village. This was to differentiate the houses as bride and groom’s houses.
Moreover, the granddaughters decked up the bride for the wedding, the grandsons were in charge of getting the groom ready at Beniapukur.
On February 16, Biswanath was taken to Bamunia to get the bride home fireworks were organized as the groom arrived on a horse-cart. They exchanged garlands and conducted other rituals of the wedding.
The couple’s children had also arranged a grand dinner for the entire family, shared one of the grandsons Pinto Mondol.
