A mother can go to any extent to protect her child, and a tribal woman from Madhya Pradesh has very well proved this.

The brave woman reportedly fought off a leopard with her bare hands and snatched her son from its jaws in Badi Jhiriya village. At that moment, she had no weapon to defend herself, but she chose to ignore the risk for her son.

On that day, the Baiga tribal woman named Kiran was sitting beside a fire with her three children to keep them warm outside their hut. Just then, out of the blue, a leopard appeared and grabbed her son Rahul with its jaws and ran away.

In that moment of distress, Kiran did not go weak. She kept her remaining children inside the hut and chased the leopard into the forest.

The big cat took cover in the bushes and then held the child with its claws to her dismay. But this did not stop the mother. With all her might, she tried chasing away the leopard with a stick and raised the alarm.

“The leopard probably got scared with the woman’s courage and left the child. While Kiran immediately took her son in her arms, the feline attacked her. However, she overpowered the big cat with her valour,” told local tiger reserve’s director, Y P Singh to the Press.

Kiran’s cries were heard by the villagers who rushed to the spot. Amidst that noise, the leopard got alarmed and scared, and so it left the child behind and disappeared.

Unfortunately, the boy was saved but scarred. He received injuries on his back, cheeks, and eyes. Kiran herself also got wounded in the attack.

They were later on admitted to a primary health center and provided immediate assistance of Rs.1,000 by Buffer zone ranger Aseem Bhuria. The forest department will bear all the additional expenses of their treatment.

Watch her narrate the incident.

Tweeples have been taken aback by the tribal woman’s courage for fighting a leopard all alone including forest department staff and state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

We salute her grit and hope that her child recovers.
