About 38 countries had participated in this international event. However, it is a proud moment for Indians as participants from this country won 23 medals, which includes 6 gold, 13 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
But, a Delhi-based bodybuilder, Chitharesh Natesan, who is a native of Kochi, stole the limelight by becoming the first Indian to win the Mr.Universe 2019 crown at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship that took place in South Korea’s Jeju.
Chitharesh Natesan won the title at WBPF 2019 in 90 kg. Also, India secured second place in the team championship category, finishing behind Thailand.
While speaking to media, Natesan said that he has been into bodybuilding for the past 10 years. Adding to this he mentioned, “To participate in this championship, I first went for the trials. I got selected for the Indian team and then I began my preparations. After winning the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship earlier this year, I went on to participate in the World Championship. I am very happy to bring gold for my country India.”
In October, he had also won the Mr.Asia title at the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (ABBF) held in Thailand.
Before participating in various championships and emerging as a winner, Natesan also completed a course in Physical Education from Lakshmibai National College in Thiruvananthapuram. After that, he never looked back and went on to work as a fitness trainer in New Delhi.
Congratulations, Chitharesh!!!
