How does erectile dysfunction medications work?

There are four types of ED medications: sildenafil, tadalafil, avanafil, and vardenafil. All four of these belong to the class of phosphodiesterase or PDE inhibitors. These drugs can boost nitric oxide in your body. This then will cause an increase in blood flow in your penis which can result in an erection stimulated by arousal.

Remember all ED medications should only be taken once every 24 hours and shouldn’t be taken if you are under chest pain medications. Nitrates and ED medications are said to have interactions that can cause you extremely low blood pressure.

Sildenafil

Viagra is among the brand name of sildenafil and probably the most known among the four. Aside from being a treatment for erectile dysfunction, sildenafil’s other brand name Revatio is a prescribed medication for pulmonary arterial hypertension or PAH.

The recommended dosage for sildenafil depends on the tolerance of your body. It can start from 25mg up to 100mg and can be taken orally or through injections. Sildenafil has to be taken at least an hour before intercourse before it takes effect. Its effect can last up to two to six hours depending on your dosage.

Tadalafil

Tadalafil, on the other hand, is known for its brand name called Cialis. Just like sildenafil, its other brand name Adcirca can help with PAH. Furthermore, tadalafil has been proven to be effective in reducing the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.

It comes in the form of an oral tablet that varies from 2.5 mg to 20 mg. It is recommended to take 5mg of tadalafil at least 30mins before intercourse. Its effect can last up to 36 hours, making it the most long-lasting out of all the four. If you are anticipating to be more sexually active, you can take 2.5 mg of tadalafil every day. If you think this suits you better, check out Numan – UK tadalafil.

Avanafil

Avanafil has its brand name Stendra. It comes as an oral tablet with dosages from 50mg to 200mg. The regular dose for avanafil is 100mg, however, you can take it up to 200 mg or as low as 50 depending on how tolerant or effective it is for you. Unlike the first two, avanafil can be taken at least 15 mins before your sexual activity and its efficacy can last up to six hours.

Vardenafil

Lastly is vardenafil. Levitra and Staxyn are among their brand names. Aside from the oral tablet, vardenafil also comes in a form of a drug that can easily melt on your tongue. 10 mg of medication is recommended once a day and should be taken at least an hour before intercourse. Just like the other two, vardenafil’s effects can last up to five hours.

How will I know which ones the best for me?

As you know, these four basically do the same thing with a male’s body. Your choice will now have to depend on convenience and accessibility. You should also consider based on which one is more cost-effective for you.

It is always advised to consult with your doctor before consuming these medicines as these treatments might cause you allergies and other side effects. The information provided here is only for knowledge and should not be considered as a prescription.
