Combining creative vision with her own innovative outlook on life, Miki Agrawal has helped to change the very meaning of the entrepreneurial spirit in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally in the field of finance, Miki Agrawal graduated from Cornell University with her B.S. in Business and Communication. A job at Deutsche Bank in New York City before 9/11 would have her shifting her focus toward another calling, something more meaningful – something that she could be proud of.
In the years since Agrawal turned away from her work in the finance field, she has become one of the most widely recognized social entrepreneurs in the industry. Recognized by Fast Company in 2018 as one of their Most Creative People, Agrawal has fought for her success every step of the way.
Let’s explore Miki Agrawal’s journey to better understand her fight for success, the development of TUSHY, and how her personal backstory intertwines the two.
From Finance to Food: Becoming a Disrupt-Her
Considering herself both passionate and authentic, Agrawal knew that she had to believe in her work to really push for its success. This would lead Agrawal to turn from finances to finer dining with her work founding WILD, a farm-to-table pizza restaurant with two current locations in New York City. Success with the endeavor would allow Agrawal to pursue even further goals, becoming a true disruptor in the space.
Upon finding success with WILD, Agrawal would transition into the retail world by focusing on sustainable underwear, thus giving birth to THINX. THINX developed a line of sustainable underwear garments for use during menstrual cycles. Success with the product would allow Agrawal to continue exploring more options in the retail and sales space, eventually leading to one of her biggest ideas yet.
Throughout her life, Agrawal would struggle with health issues pertaining to the bathroom. Rapidly dropping weight and struggling with a comfortable hygiene routine, Miki Agrawal decided to develop the TUSHY bidet with some inspiration from her husband. Spurned on by the toilet paper shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic, TUSHY would become one of the best-selling bidets of the era, moving nearly one million units to customers around the world.
Not only has creating the TUSHY bidet changed her life (and the lives of many others) it has also become a feather in the cap of Agrawal’s greener living initiative. Right now, Agrawal is challenging herself and the TUSHY bidet team to save more than 15 million trees from getting flushed each and every year as toilet paper. Agrawal hopes that through her work she can make a positive difference to the environment, herself, and those dealing with the various chronic medical ailments that a bidet could improve.
