In a selfless and inspiring act of communal harmony, a Muslim man from Bengaluru has donated 1.5 guntas of land worth Rs. 80 lakh to Rs. 1 cr for revamping a Hanuman temple. Named H M G Basha, the man, who is into the cargo business, has become a flag bearer of inclusion and empathy in these extreme times.

The 65-year-old is a resident of Belathur in Kadugodi, where he owned three acres of ancestral land located adjacent to a small Hanuman temple in Valagerepura, Hosakote taluk, Bengaluru Rural district. The temple has been flocked by devotees for over three decades. Basha noticed that lately there has been a shortage of space around the temple with an increasing number of visitors. To solve the issue, the villagers were willing to expand the premises when Basha came to the rescue.

Recently the villagers had decided to renovate the temple but were short of space. Realizing the requirement, I offered to donate 1.5 guns out of the three-acre land by convincing the hesitant villagers,” Basha told Deccan Herald.

What’s even more striking is that the land is located at a crucial place, with Old Madras Road passing right next to it. Despite that Basha chose to help the temple. Moreover, the temple trust had asked only for one gunta of the land but keeping in mind the influx of devotees, Basha was generous and gave 1.5 guntas.

His decision was completely supported by his family members. Basha wishes to stop the hatred and spread peace among people through his actions.

All my family members agreed to this. Today we live, tomorrow we perish. When uncertainty is lurking in our lives, what will we gain by spreading hatred against each other? What one does must benefit the society at large,” Basha said.

With this gift by Basha, Sri Veeranjaneyaswami Devalaya Seva Trust has embarked on renovating the temple with a sum of Rs. 1 crore. A poster lauding Basha’s charity was displayed by villagers beside the main road, which went viral instantly.

HMG Basha donated the land for construction of temple wholeheartedly. Construction of the temple is underway. We are very happy, and it was his greatness that Basha donated so much land to build a temple,” said Bhyre Gowda, the temple trustee.
