In times of hookups and casual relationships, this couple managed to stay together for ten years. They have been with each other through the ups and downs, no matter what.

As beautiful as it seems, the journey of togetherness comes with its share of challenges and struggles. Jay Agarwal and Vishruti Shah share their journey from being strangers to life partners with us.
The Confession
“We met for the first time in CPT, CA foundation classes at Knowledge Academy in Ahmedabad. I was sitting in the front and Vishruti was in the seat exactly behind me. Our first conversation began with her requesting me to move out of her way so that she can see the content on the board.”
Everyone was new in the batch, and thus a few of them started hanging out together in a group. Jay and Vishruti were in the same group while pursuing CPT. Slowly, they came close to each other and communicated a lot as friends. The classes were conducted for the whole day, so having lunch together was a part of their routine. This routine ended with a dessert from the nearest outlet of Havmor, now known as Hocco.
There was no obvious communication of liking each other or being in a relationship, but Jay and Vishruti always stayed connected. There was this special moment that deepened their bond during those days. Vishruti shared about those moments, saying,
“Jay had recently gone through a breakup, a few months ago and it made him emotional and sad sometimes. I used to sit with him and be there for him whenever he needed me in the initial days. At that point in time, I had no idea that we would go together for this long, but all I wanted was to be with him and comfort him through the pain.”

Days passed and they cleared their CPT and went to the next level of the CA course, IPCC. Just like it happens in some Hindi movies, neither of them expressed their feelings. They continued to hang out together and spent time with each other. One fine day Vishruti, just out of fun and mischief said these words, “Now it’s over between us” over a text message.
This made Jay restless and he reached her house within just 10-15 minutes. Jay had a witty question for this message, he said, “How can things get over between us, we need to start something first!”
This was the moment they both smiled and feelings were openly confessed.
Journey ahead
First Phase
Months passed and situations changed. After clearing his IPCC, Jay started his articleship and Vishruti shifted to Pune to pursue MBA. On being asked about this phase of their life, they both share,
“The long distance wasn’t that hard for us. We were both busy with studies and focusing on our careers. We always trusted each other to the core and never had any doubt about our relationship. Just like every relationship, we fought, but the relationship was always bigger for us than any other problem.”
Vishruti used to visit Ahmedabad every 2-3 months, so they could meet regularly. Also, Jay gave her a surprise visit on her birthday to Pune. These small moments and meetings were the strength of their relationships. No matter how often they met, every meeting made the relationship a little stronger.

Second Phase
After completing her studies, Vishruti was eager to get a job in Ahmedabad and stay close to Jay. However, things turned out to be a little different after Jay completed his CA. He got a job in Dubai and was all set to begin his professional journey there. As soon as Vishruti came to Ahmedabad, it was time for Jay to leave and begin his new life in Dubai.
This was the 2nd phase of their long-distance relationship. They further shared that transparency was another thing that resulted in a smooth relationship even though they were physically away from each other. They both made sure to openly express how they felt. There were no layers or hiding when it came to sharing. The relationship had that openness and comfort which led to such transparency in spite of being physically apart.
The final chapter
While in Dubai, Jay & Vishruti were continuously discussing their future plans. Whether to live in Dubai or in Ahmedabad, how to adjust their professions and job according to it. Before they could come to any final decision about what to do, Jay’s father passed away due to corona in the year 2021.
All the planning about the future was kept aside as this event brought an unexpected storm in Jay’s life. He needed the time to settle down and also be there for his mom. In this tough time, they chose to be together and face the circumstances. Jay decided to stay back in India with his mom and pursue his practice in the field of CA.

As time passed both of their families were questioning them about marriage. So finally, in April 2022 they both decided to tell their families about their relationship. Both the families agreed and they got engaged in May 2022. Here’s a beautiful picture from their recent engagement ceremony.
On being asked about the three main factors that helped their relationship remain strong over these 10 years, they shared –
- Letting go of things and understanding that the person is more important than your EGO.
- Never take the other person for granted and always do the best of what you can for them.
- Respecting the other person is a top priority.
The foundation of their relationship stands on these three pillars and is going to get a promotion later this year, as they get married.
