Life has always been difficult for minority communities in our country but there are few who fought their battles bravely. Sathyasri Sharmila is one of them.
Sharmila has beaten all odds to become the first transgender lawyer in India and wishes other transgender folks to prosper across the nation. The 36-year-old is a resident of Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu, as mentioned by ANI report.
Today I enrolled my name in Bar Council Of Tamil Nadu And Puducherry & became the first transgender lawyer in India. I have struggled a lot in my life. I expect that people from my community will do well and serve at higher positions across the country: Sathya Sri Sharmila pic.twitter.com/QvLQFE3zCW

Born as Udhayakumar, Sharmila walked out of her home at the age of 18, after her neighbors began ill-treating her. She then changed her name to Sathyasri Sharmila and completed her B.Com (Company Secretaryship) from Paramakudi. Wanting to help her community in any way possible, she decided to take up law thereafter.
Even though there are pride walks in our country, still for most of the people belonging from LGBTQ community face difficulties to get access to basic amenities. Things are gradually starting to change as we have seen earlier in the case of Salma Khan who became the first transgender Lok Adalat Panelist From Mumbai, and in 2017, Ganga Kumari being appointed as the first transgender police constable by Rajasthan High Court.
May we see more acceptance of the LGBTQ community members in our daily social life. Let’s make India more inclusive.
