Choose Your Changes

You might have the daily opportunity to alter your life, but you don’t want to actually set that in motion every single day. Therefore, your first step should be to choose the changes that you want to make. The good news about the fact that you can change every day is that if you start on a path and it’s not right for you, you don’t have to stay on it.

You don’t even have to wait for the next day to switch. You can do it the moment you realize that the path you chose isn’t working for you. Once you’ve chosen a goal, you need to figure out the intermediate steps to get you there. For example, if you’ve decided you want to change your life by going back to school, you may need to start by looking into what kind of financial help you can get, including loans from private lenders. Focus on Habits

It’s important to know the big-picture goals that you are aiming for, but in your day-to-day life, you’ll be better off aiming for the right habits. Too often, people simply focus on the goal and wonder why it seems to be forever out of their grasp. Practicing regular habits is what gets you closer to your goal, and it’s something else you can start today.

For example, if your goal is to run a marathon, you probably can’t get out there and run more than 20 miles today. You might even need to start by walking just a mile. By making this a regular habit that you do several times per week, you’ll eventually improve and be ready to accomplish your marathon goal. Think carefully about what you want and what daily habits will get you there.

Accept Discomfort

Change is scary. Some of your new habits are almost certainly going to involve some discomfort, at least for a little while. You shouldn’t assume that discomfort means that you are doing something wrong. It just means that you are doing something different, and it will take a little while to adjust to that. We are creatures of habit, some of us more than others, and we naturally resist any disruption to our known routine, but it’s possible to push past that resistance and make the change part of everyday life.

One at a Time

It can be a mistake to try to do too much at once. Usually, you’re best off choosing one thing that you want to do differently and working on that for a while. Once you feel you’re getting the hang of it, you can add something new. Making a change that is sustainable and is more important than implementing lots of changes all at once.
