COVID-19 Awareness – How India Got Creative To Spread The Message

COVID-19 pandemic has taken more than 500+ lives in India and has affected 17,000+ people till now as per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) report. In this time of crisis, from police personnel to sweet makers of this country, everyone is standing united and finding innovative ways to make common folks aware of this pandemic.

While on one hand, police personnel are leaving no stones unturned by wearing spiky Corona helmets, singing songs, doing street plays and dancing to the tunes of peppy songs; sweet makers have created Corona sandesh (sweets) which looks similar to popular killer Coronavirus image doing the rounds on the internet.

A police sub-inspector from Punjab, Baljinder Singh recently released a bhangra pop music video ‘Desh mere de vasiyo, ek ral ke muhim challayee, iss corona virus utte ethe hi bann laayey (People of the country, we should collectively run a campaign against coronavirus and prevent it from spreading)’. The video emphasizes the importance of implementing precautionary measures to fight COVID-19.

Not only this video has become viral and has earned accolades, but Punjab CM Amrinder Singh also shared this video on his Twitter handle as well. In the video, Singh also urges people to protect the children and elderly who are vulnerable to the deadly Coronavirus disease directed by health authorities.

While the world is complaining of feeling bored during the lockdown, Corona cops with their spiky Corona helmets are confronting bikers who are flouting the lockdown norms. In Ulsoor traffic station, not only the policemen are wearing these helmets themselves, but they have also transferred these helmets onto the heads of bikers to show how the virus spreads. Similarly, Hyderabad police have also started handing out the spike-ball helmets to the traffic cops to raise awareness about the deadly virus. 

A journalist called Pramod Madhav spotted Rajeesh BABU, a Corona cop from Chennai wearing a Corona helmet. “Inspector Rajeesh BABU, wears the Corona Helmet, stops #lockdown violators and advises them on why they need to stay home. Going an extra mile while performing his duty,” he wrote on Twitter.

Last month, in March, Kerala Police released a video that showed the importance of washing hands to ward off COVID-19. In the video, they danced to a popular Malayalam song Kalakkatha from the film Ayyapanum Koshiyum. Through this video, they showed the steps of washing hands and urged people to ‘Break the Chain’.

In Andhra Pradesh, police personnel of Dhone town of Kurnool district used theatre for their campaign against COVID-19. They hired local artists and dressed them as Yamraj, Chitragupta and Coronavirus. The purpose was to create awareness about the effect of this deadly virus.

Sweets and Bengal are inseparable and people here cannot keep themselves away from ‘mishti’ (sweets) for too long. The city of joy never ceases to surprise us even in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

A confectioner in south Kolkata’s Jadavpur area has prepared a sandesh, which looks like the microscopic image of killer Coronavirus. While speaking to ANI, the owner of the shop said, “Thousands of people are dying due to the #Coronavirus. It’s a message to uplift the spirit of people that we will fight and digest corona & not vice versa”.

To spread COVID-19 awareness, the Kolkata Police used a popular song by filmmaker-musician Anjan Dutta. The song ‘Bela Bose‘, which was released in 1994 is an all-time favorite and did connect with people amid the Coronavirus crisis. This video has gone viral too.  See it for yourself! 

The tweet shared by Kolkata police says, “Music in the time of Corona. Nothing better than music to heal the stressed mind. KP attempts a musical connect to pep up fellow citizens forced to stay indoors in these trying times.”

Indore Police have donned ‘ghost look’ to make people aware of the deadly Coronavirus. With the message that if you do not take the precautions advised by the health professionals against COVID-19, you will become its victim.

While the state government of West Bengal used folk artists on stilts to reach out to people in West Midnapore, in Telangana too, artists came forward to stand united against Corona.

In Andhra Pradesh, a sub-inspector Maruti Shankar in the Pepally town of Kurnool district was seen riding a horse painted with images of the COVID-19 virus to create awareness among the public about the pandemic, said a tweet shared by a news agency, ANI. The painting on the horse’s body certainly caught everyone’s attention.
