The tradition of organizing iftar in BHU dates back to more than two decades. These iftars were attended by subsequent Vice-Chancellors over the years in the capacity of head of the BHU fraternity and as per their availability on the campus.

Due to the restrictions of COVID 19 pandemic, Iftar could not be organized for the past two years.

Unfortunately, several groups of students have been holding violent protests against the act. Students were seen chanting Hanuman Chalisa, and spreading hate speech on University compound wall.

“Attempts to disturb the peace and academic atmosphere of Banaras Hindu University are unacceptable and condemnable,” asserted Banaras Hindu University fraternity in a response to this.
