Will it be safe to say that only by saving the face of the acid-survivours, society can save their face too?

Inspired by the true story of an acid attack survivor, the trailer of much-awaited Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film Chhapaak was released on December 10. Not many know that Tuesday was also Human Rights Day and because of this it has sparked conversations online regarding the stigma attached to the survivor’s face and also the acid attacks in this country.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the story is inspired by true events and is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, and her journey of pain, survival, resilience, strength, and courage.

The film is about a woman named Malti who was attacked on the streets of Delhi with and how her life changed after the acid attack. Vikrant Massey is also seen in a pivotal role where he plays a journalist and social activist.

The trailer has garnered more than 1 million views and netizens are praising Deepika for handling Laxmi’s character with just the right amount of sensitivity and subtlety.

The post got 15.4k hits and has been retweeted 1.7k times till now. While many celebrities praised the trailer, Rangoli Chandel, Kangana Ranaut’s sister, who is also an acid attack survivor commented on the Twitter post.
