It is true that you are born alone. Yet there are two very important people that decide to make your existence on this earth possible. They are your parents.

Ever since you open your eyes for the first time, they are the first humans you see and you stay with them for years together. They watch your every step, shape you, and make you what you are today. But then there comes a time when you set our foot outside home. You make friends of your own age. You change, grow distant. Parents don’t. For them, you remain the same baby who was once cooing in their arms.

parents best friends

It is quite easy to relate to mates of the same age. However, it’s not the same when it comes to parents. The irony is, the mates you cherish leaving out your parents are generally your competitors. Many a time, whether silently or openly, they do the race with you and that is when you start to feel alone. Then there are those who come to your lives only because they want something. It is indeed difficult to find a true friend these days.

But parents? Do they honestly expect things in return? Never. Whatever they insisted, at times against your will, it’s only for your well being. You may agree or disagree with them but their intent is never wrong or selfish. If you are one of those who claim to be lacking friends, it is time to look inside your own home to find one.

1. Their honesty

Parents give you their honest opinions. There’s no parent who will mislead their child. At least not knowingly. All that age and wisdom really comes handy.

2. Parents are always there

In sickness. In health. They are always there for you. No matter how far they live, they remain close and show up when you need them.

3. Unconditional love

They love you unconditionally. It is really hard to find another human relation that gives so much love.

4. They never leave

They’ve seen you at your worst and never left your side. Your parents are not scared to embrace you even when you make mistakes or fail in life.

5. They give all their time

Your parents do have their personal life besides you. But that doesn’t stop them from talking to you for hours even if they have other things they could be doing. For them, you are the priority.

6. Life lessons

They’ve taught you life lessons and have made you what you are. Your life’s principles and decisions have been hugely affected by what you learned from your parents. Half of your wisdom in the growing years comes from their experiences.

7. They look out for you

Parents look out for you regardless of your age. They are the living guardian angels who watch over you till their last breath. For them, you are never an option.

8. Pointing your mistakes

They’ve always told you when you’re wrong. Fortunately or unfortunately, they are right most of the times. It takes courage and humility to accept your faults which you may lose over time but your gut feeling tells you that they are right.

9. Highly intuitive

Parents have an amazing sixth sense which comes from life experience. In your early years, just when you have contradictions in your mind and heart, you should just listen to them. Because that will ultimately take you to places you never imagined.

And this list may go on and on.

You can never return what your parents have ever done for you. And neither you should ever try to. The best you can do, as you grow up, be there for them. Give them the attention they deserve. And above all, give them your time.

This friendship day, make them feel alive. Give them a hug. And thank them for being the best of buddies all these while.

Happy Friendship Day!
