Are you intrigued by the headline already? Don’t be because for many Indians the central government’s guidelines for nationwide unlock are nothing but a sign of relief from the pandemic. Sigh.
From wearing the masks with open nostrils to moving around freely like there’s no threat out there, Indians have welcomed and harbored the coronavirus wonderfully.
Flouting all norms with no regard for social distancing, all sorts of rituals including mass worships have been seen across the country. For some with fortune, nothing seems to have changed despite the outbreak.
Things have gone more bizarre since citizens have started taking the virus for granted.
Two of my relatives called up and suggested me to move back to Delhi because “Corona kam hogaya hai”. Can you believe this? They even referred to their daughter who joined the office recently. I should have countered asking if she wore a mask, but then who can make these people understand? They are educated, they watch the news, click on news websites, still, the staggering 60 lakh + cases around the country seem nothing to them.
There are celebrities, politicians, and not to forget, journalists, and COVID warriors losing their lives out there. But how does it matter unless your own kin is affected? This is the mindset.
Not to leave out the conspiracy theories.
Some uncles who have ‘Chai’ with my father have started claiming that corona is a conspiracy by the government. There must be some hidden economic reason behind the terror spread all around, they said. Thankfully my father, a doctor himself put some sense in their heads by countering and stating the grave and grim reality.
In a recent statement, Canadian President Trudeau clearly said that the world is under a crisis and it is going to get worse. Likewise, the WHO chief has time and again stated that there are numerous doubts about corona being cured by vaccines. No country has a proven cure or vaccine to the deadly virus. The latest article also claims that the virus strains have become deadlier.
Nevertheless, one needs to be optimistic and hope that we all are rescued.
How long could any government possibly lock down their nation? The state of the economy is crumbling like anything. We got to work and make our country stand firm.
But this has nothing to do with corona’s fall of cases. Let us be clear about this.
Thankfully Indians have a very strong immune system and have displayed signs of herd immunity. Let’s just hope that there’s hope.
Till then we can wear masks, use sanitizers, soaps and maintain social distance.
