As the world is conducting extensive vaccination drives, India is struggling to meet the requirement of its 1.3 billion citizens. To ease the process, the Government has further segregated the vaccines on a priority basis starting from the most vulnerable group i.e. 60+ or with chronic ailments, followed by 45+, and 18+ age group.
Yet many elderly stay alone and have difficulty in reaching the vaccination centers on their own. To aid them, authorities in metro cities and state capitals have volunteered in taking them to the venue in person with proper support.
Many states like that in Odisha have arranged teams that will reach the respective houses of the elderly, and pregnant women to provide the vaccines.
Recently a Delhi Police constable, Kuldeep Singh, was seen carrying an elderly woman in his arms in a vaccination center. To ensure further safety of the woman, she was clad in the PPE kit. He carries her all the way up to the stairs of the building.
The pictures of the policeman have been getting viral on social media.
As per IPS Harendra K Singh, the elderly woman Constable Kuldeep helped out is Shaila D’Souza. She is aged 82 years and is a retired English teacher. She has no kin and stays with an attendant at her residence.
Kuldeep not only assisted her in reaching the vaccination center but also helped her with the entire registration process.
Singh is posted at the Kashmere Gate Police Station and has been keeping a check on Shaila as she is a senior citizen in the area he is posted. He noticed that the elderly woman has not been able to walk for the last two years.
Speaking on the viral photos, Kuldeep further narrated to ANI that in that particular area no wheelchair or stretcher could reach, and thus he had to carry her in his arms.
