Friendships are a strange thing. They could link a group of people who may have divergent views on things. It takes even a whole new level of weirdness when the friends we’re talking about are some of the most notable figures of the times.
Top of that list is the friendship of three of America’s uber-billionaires: Sergey Brin (47), Larry Paige (48), and Elon Musk (49). It’s hard not to know these names. After all, the first two are Google co-founders, each worth over $100 billion. And Elon Musk also needs no introduction. Touted as “the richest billionaire on the planet,” the Tesla founder is hanging out and playing video games with the Google co-founders.
What’s amazing is Elon sees artificial intelligence (AI) as the downfall of humanity and speaks freely against it. But his two buddies from Google are leading the way in the technology of AI.
But here’s more.
This business triumvirate of sorts also has its sights on protecting Mother Earth. They’re at the forefront of using technology to keep humanity safe and secure from the evils of pollution. Learn how they’ve done it and how you can also do your part and pitch in for a more livable planet in the years to come.
The Green Bosses
Let’s start with the oldest of the three, Elon Musk. A relative newcomer in the three-comma club, Mr. Musk made a killing during the pandemic, just like the first centibillionaire Mr. Jeff Bezos. You might be wondering how did Elon become such an Earth lover. Well, there’s no doubt that he is. To know how he expresses that, you have to look at what he produces: electric cars.
Without a shadow of a doubt, petrol and diesel cars (collectively called fossil fuel cars) are giving our planet a hard time. As the Mayor of London details, 50% of the air pollution on the planet is due to road transport. So the mayor’s solution along with his council is to accelerate the adoption of electric cars on London’s road. By 2040, the UK government is set to ban the sale of fossil fuel cars.
Indeed, electric cars serve a huge role in minimizing our carbon footprint. So there’s no argument; Tesla and Elon Musk deserve our commendations.
While Elon is making eco-friendly cars, Larry Paige and Sergey Brin are also busy making a dent in the green trend in Silicon Valley. Via Google.org, the search engine’s charitable foundation, the billionaire duo has donated $100 million in terms of grants and investment to nonprofits and other companies into solar energy and alternative energy sources.
Plus, they’re also making it easier for people to be environmentally friendly. To boot, all of Google’s offices are solar-powered. Plus, there’s Google PowerMeter, a way for web users to track electricity usage and cut back.
How Corporate Can Help Mother Earth
For your part, you can follow the lead of the Google founders. You can explore ways where you can use office equipment with a far lesser carbon footprint. Using solar power is a good start.
Additionally, you can explore HVAC units for the office that are more eco-friendly. Getting, for instance, condensing units for commercial refrigeration that belt out a lesser amount of carbon should be wise. To date, the government is favoring better refrigerants that are more eco-friendly. So being conscious about Mother Earth is also being a good citizen.
Additionally, there are practical steps you can take as a corporate entity and as an individual that can help Mother Earth. While you may not be able yet to enjoy an electric vehicle or EV like Tesla, you can always have an eco-friendly way to work or shop around.
Riding a bike is a good start. Not only will it help you attain better heart health (among many other benefits that can help you physically), it’s also chipping in for the planet. You’re actually giving Mother Earth one less car to worry about. If not, you can use a carpool. Co-workers can do that. Alternatively, you can make carpooling part of your routine. Instead of using two cars to be at one location, you can ride your friend’s car and leave your vehicle at home.
Moreover, you can take the notion of green living a step farther by practicing less wastage. Think about your faucet and all the leaks in your house. It’s about time you minimize your water wastage and enforce water-saving protocols for everyone in the family to follow.
It’s definitely high time we get our act together. With Elon Musk, Larry Paige, and Sergey Brin showing us glorious examples, it should be a done deal.
