It is no surprise we have been practicing harmful effects on the environment. From the need for wood to land clearance for building, trees are seen as disposable and their destruction as insignificant. But, this 58-year-old is striving to go green.
Tirupati auto-rickshaw driver is not only a nature lover but also an environmentalist. Kompala Babu’s auto is a representation of his passion for the ecosystem and his care for it. Babu has planted saplings in his vehicle to encourage greenery and raise awareness on environmental conservation.
Kompala Babu used to work as a milk product dealer and distributor in the city. However, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011. His treatment cost his family around 11 lakh rupees. To cover the costs, they were also obliged to sell their home. Following his recovery, Babu took on petty occupations to help support his family. He began driving an auto and planted saplings in the vehicle in 2019.
“Every passenger notices how appealing my vehicle is. As they board my auto, they remark it seems like they’re sitting in a garden. Passengers are more aware of the need for environmental preservation after seeing my vehicle. I also feel that nature could protect us all from the variety of health concerns that we experience today,” said Babu to TNIE.
