India has been sizzling and sweltering amid an intense heatwave that has forced millions to take cover indoors.
A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is over 40 Degree Celsius and at least 4.5 notches above normal. A severe heatwave is declared if the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.4 notches. Based on absolute recorded temperatures, a heatwave is declared when an area logs a maximum temperature of 45 Degree Celsius. A severe heatwave is declared if the maximum temperature crosses 47 Degree Celsius.
India saw its warmest March this year since the IMD began keeping records 122 years ago, amid a 71% rain deficit. With scanty rains owing to feeble western disturbances, northwest and central India experienced the hottest April in 122 years as the average maximum temperature touched 35.9 Degree Celsius and 37.78 Degree Celsius, respectively.
Amid this excruciating heat, a food delivery executive was forced to ride a bicycle due to financial constraints. This is where personnel from MP Police Department stepped in.
Indore’s Vijay Nagar police station officers bought a motorcycle for the said man who was delivering food on a bicycle.
While patrolling the city, the police spotted the man on the cycle, said SHO Tehzeeb Qazi. Since it was very hot outside, they could not hold themselves but asked the man why he was doing so. To this, he replied that he had financial problems and could not afford a bike.

This put the personnel to thought and action. They all contributed and raised 32000 INR as a down payment for the bike. Now the delivery executive has a motorcycle of his own. He just has to pay the installments. Moreover, the Police are ready to help if he faces any trouble paying the monthly amount.
“We contributed money and purchased a bike for him. We’ve made the initial payment of around Rs 32,000 and also the first installment. He has assured us that he’ll pay rest of the installments but we’ll help him if he faces any problem,” told SHO Tehzeeb Qazi to ANI.
The newfound bike is helping the delivery executive deliver more packets than before.
“Earlier, I used to deliver six to eight food parcels on my bicycle, but now I am delivering 15-20 food parcels at night while moving around on the motorbike,” the man said.
The incident is now going viral on social media. There have been numerous reactions to the same.
“These police personnel can be role model of all police stations throughout India,” wrote a Twitter user.
“It will be cheaper for your department if you properly registered a seized and theft bike in his name, in every police station old seized bike deteriorate and junked and no use,” suggested another.
Respite From Heat Wave
Heat has partially abated from all parts of the country and the maximum temperature has further fallen by two to four degrees Celsius over Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.
No part of northwest, central and east India is likely to record a heatwave over the next five days. Yet no significant change is predicted in the maximum temperature over most parts of northwest India and central India during the next two to three days. The mercury is likely to increase by two to three degrees Celsius thereafter.
Heatwave conditions will return to some parts of Maharashtra from Wednesday and isolated areas of Rajasthan from Friday.
Under the influence of a Western Disturbance, isolated light rainfall, dust storm, and thunderstorm with winds gusting up to 50 Km/h is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the next two days.
