Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could stay in Goa for free? After all, the majority of expenses on any trip is food and accommodation. And no one can deny that Goa is easily the most favored tourist destination for Indians.
I stayed at Papi Chulo, Vagator beach on a couple of my solo trips. Based on my personal experience, this is how you can stay in Goa for free or by paying a bare minimum in lodging expenses.

Papi Chulo is a hostel and there are many other tourist-friendly hostels scattered around Goa. Now here’s the secret to a free stay – Volunteer. These hostels are often short-handed when it comes to staff. You can help out in the following ways. Note that this is not an exhaustive list. You might find more activities that you can help out with, in return for a free stay.
Few things you can volunteer to do:
- Bartending
- Reception
- Helpdesk
- Housekeeping
- Tour guide
Hostels are always looking for someone to help out with the chores. We suggest that you enquire in advance about available opportunities so that there are no last-minute surprises.
It’s a fair deal, in exchange for a free stay, you get to help other people, while also making new friends in the process. You’d get the chance to meet people from all over the world and have interesting conversations.
Personally, this is the best way to experience how the locals live when you are traveling. This goes for hostels across the globe and this is how the majority of people are able to travel to multiple countries on a budget.
