We all have our own set of shortcomings that cannot possibly be fixed in our lives. Yet there are always other ways to overcome or do good with whatever we have been bestowed with.

Such is a woman named Huchchamma Chowdri. She can very easily be counted among those selfless noble souls that make the world a better place for Chowdri has done something very great. The woman has recently donated her own land worth one crore rupees to build a school and playground for children in Kunikeri Village of Haveri district in Karnataka. The old lady owned two acres of land in the village and volunteered to provide her assets when the government was looking for land to build a school for the children of the village.

This Woman Donated Land Worth One Crore To Build School For Children In Karnataka

Having given up all assets, she worked as a cook for mid-day meals in the school prior to the pandemic. These days she has resorted to working in agricultural fields as the school is shut.

Beloved ‘Ajji’

Hunchchamma was a young woman when she married Basappa Chowdri from the village. They did not have any children of their own and used to work on their agricultural land. After his death, she continued to work on her land.

But when she learned about the need for land for children’s school she offered it all without a second thought.

“What would I do with all that money? These kids will remember me forever, won’t they? That is enough,” Chowdri told the media.

She is now referred to as ‘Ajji’ meaning grandmother by the children of the village for her kindness.

“I didn’t give birth. But all these kids call me Ajji (granny). I feel extremely happy to feed 300 odd kids every single day. Why settle for one or two children when you can call 300 your own,” she added.

The value of land in the village shot up with growing metal manufacturers and the market value of Chowdri’s land reportedly came to be around one crore rupees which she donated all to build the school. Her land is now divided into two parts – one acre for building the school and another acre to the school’s committee for creating a playground for the children.
