War-torn Ukraine happens to be a huge magnet for students aspiring for medical studies and so there are thousands who have been stuck in the country during the last two weeks of conflict. The Government is ensuring all help and safe passage and the majority of students returned safely to India yet it was not just the Government that lent a hand in the moment of crisis but a lot of civilians showed exemplary benevolence on the ground.

One such person is a doctor originally hailing from Kolkata who has decided to stay back to help out students flee Ukraine.

Dr. Prithwi Raj Ghosh, a 37-year-old medical practitioner and student consultant in Ukraine is helping the evacuation efforts for Indian students in the besieged country.

This Indian Doctor Stayed Back In Ukraine To Help Evacuate Students

As per reports, Ghosh has already helped evacuate more than 350 students from Ukraine. They were basically his students in Kyiv. The coordinators have also requested him to help out other students, especially those stranded in Sumy.

He also made it clear has he is “not stuck in Kyiv” and “not leaving by choice”.

Speaking to a media publication, Ghosh’s parents said that they are very proud of his heroic deed and scared for his sake. His father, Pradip, said that his son is like an elder brother to the students in stuck in Ukraine and they consider him their guardian. This was the reason that his son could not leave them behind. Likewise his mother, Bratati, said that she prays daily for the safe return of her son as well as the students he has been helping to rescue.

On the contrary, the humble doctor had quoted that he was only doing his job. While he understood that his parent’s concern, he could not shun his responsibility. He emphasized that he had promised the students’ parents that he would take care of them.

There is history behind his choice as he faced the similar crisis in 2013-14 and said that he is now equipped to handle it in a more mature way.
