Kamal Singh, a 20-year old ballet dancer from Vikaspuri, Delhi has finally been able to pay the fees for his dream ballet school, all thanks to Hrithik Roshan and others who have contributed to funding him.
Hrithik’s HRX Films has donated ₹ 3 lakh to the dancer boosting his career towards his goal.
Son to an e-rikshaw driver, Kamal faced a lack of funds and so couldn’t attend classes in his teenage. Fortunately, his talent was discovered by Fernando Aguilera who trained him to become the dancer he is today. Soon after, Kamal got an invitation from the English National Ballet School of London. But to his dismay, he could not afford the fees of the 1-year program (£8000), not to mention the additional living expenses in London (at least £1000 per month). In order to meet his needs, the dancer put up a fundraiser in Ketto.
“My father is an e-rickshaw driver and I attended the local government boys school. I always liked to move but I didn’t have the money to attend dance classes as a teenager. I had never heard of Ballet until I saw the film ABCD – Anybody Can Dance. There I learned about many dance forms and found Ballet most exciting. Fate led me to a chance encounter with Maestro Fernando Aguilera, director of a ballet school and company in New Delhi. I fell in love with this beautiful, rigorous, classical form and after training intensively for four years, my dream has come true: The English National Ballet School of London, England, has sent me an invitation, offering me a place in their one-year Professional Trainee Programme,” shared Kamal with LifeBeyondNumbers.
The Imperial Fernando Ballet Company (IFBC) was founded by Rafi Khan and Fernando Aguilera to develop and train professional ballet dancers. With its unparalleled leadership and artistry, the dance school is now at the forefront of dance education and classical ballet training in India. Kamal’s teacher and founder Aguilera thanked Hrithik for his contribution.
Hrithik Roshan has pledged to help at least 100 dancers who are in need during the pandemic. Kamal was overwhelmed by the star’s help.
On being asked about his reaction to the funding, Kamal said, ”What will be your reaction if this happens to you tell me? Of course, it’s shocking and I feel delighted with the support from a celebrity like Hrithik!”
After a year of training, Kamal will have the chance to enter the English National Ballet Company, as a professional dancer on a monthly salary.
“I wish to become a principal ballet dancer at the English national ballet company or in any other big ballet company in the world someday,” said Kamal envisioning his future.
