A sub-inspector of the Adimali police station in Idukki, Kerala saved a woman from ending her life with his timely intervention.
Sub-inspector K M Santosh helped bring a 26-year-old tribal woman back from the brink of suicide. The woman reportedly wanted to give up on life after her lover refused to marry her.
On Wednesday morning in and about 7 AM, Sub Inspector Santosh received a call from the station house officer, Sudheer, about a woman who was attempting to jump from the top of a hill near the Kuthiralam Kudi near Adimali. This prompted the policeman to rush to the spot along with ASI Abbas T M.
“There was a crowd comprising the settlers of the hamlet and the woman’s friends and relatives when I reached the site. Her family members had tried to reach her but she threatened to jump off the hill,” Santosh told the media.
To bring her back from the hill’s edge, the policeman called the fire and rescue personnel but it was already late. He felt the woman would jump by the time the firemen arrived. In no time, he decided to take it upon himself to try and save her. On the top of all, the Kerala sub-inspector proceeded to walk along the slippery slope of the hill barefoot.
Video of Kerala Sub-inspector saving the girl goes viral
In a video shared by official Facebook page of Kerala Police, the policeman is seen sitting on a slippery slope, and at a distance of roughly 50 metres, a girl is seen seated at the edge of a mountain cliff. The clip shows how Santosh, with his carefully chosen and delivered words, managed to call the girl towards him and out of danger.
“Look…what is the problem? Whatever is the solution, we will do it for you. Come child, come. Sit here and tell me your problem,” Santosh is heard saying. As the girl slowly gets up and starts heading towards Santosh, he tells the girl to be careful of the edges and the slippery slopes. “There are no problems that we do not have a solution for. We will solve it here and then we will leave,” the officer added.

“I told her that I too have two daughters and promised to find the solution to her issue. Though she was initially reluctant to hear me, she was finally convinced,” the officer added.
Soon the woman moved away from the edge of the hill, and after Santosh spoke to her for nearly an hour on the hilltop, she promised to arrive at the police station to attend a counseling session with her parents.
“During the counseling, the woman told us that she was thinking of taking her own life following some personal issues. She was reunited with her family members,” the policeman said.
Before returning to her settlement next day, the woman promised the officer that she will keep her head up and live her life better in front of people who deceived her.
Netizens are hailing the officer’s prompt action and thanking him for saving the girl from brink of death.
