Khushi Chindaliya, a phenomenal teenager from Gujarat’s Surat has been appointed as the Regional Ambassador for India by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Tunza Eco-Generation (TEG).
With this, she will work with the TEG on various environmental awareness programs till February 2021. In addition to this, she will also have a platform to discuss India’s contribution to environmental conservation on a global level.
Speaking to the agency, she revealed that her observations of the environment over the years pushed her towards making a change.
“When I and my family shifted to a new house in the city, I could see greenery all around.” However, over the years the greens were replaced by concrete. “… I realized that my younger sister would not be able to enjoy the beauty of nature as I had in childhood,” Khushi added.
This fueled her concerns and her concerns became her passion. She started spreading awareness and taking up steps to preserve the environment.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has changed things and given rise to the new normal of wearing masks, social distancing, and going online. This is exactly why the teenager will conduct her awareness sessions online. She will be interacting with other Regional Ambassadors to understand the global scenario.
As for her education, Chindaliya recently completed her schooling and wishes to pursue economics and liberal arts in college next year.
The teenage environmentalist’s mother is extremely proud of her daughter’s stellar achievement.
“We had a green cover near our house where several species of birds and animals would frequent. Khushi would always go with her younger sister to observe them from the balcony. I have always raised my children to be environmentally conscious and keep the environment clean. I am very proud that Khushi has been given such a big responsibility,” Binita told, responding to her daughter’s achievement.
