As soon as the 2-minute long video of a Zomato delivery man hogging on a customer’s food package became viral on social media, the food giant decided to sack him. Viewed more than 4 million times, the man was seen wearing a red Zomato t-shirt and pulling out the customer order from the delivery box, taking few bites and resealing it.
To find out the authenticity of the video, Zomato launched an investigation as well which confirmed that the incident took place in Madurai and because of the food tampering the delivery man was relieved from his duties.
A blog post shared by Zomato mentioned they have spoken to the delivery executive at length and have taken him off from their platform. It also says, “Additionally, we will educate our delivery fleet of over 1.5 lakh partners to highlight or escalate any such deviations to us, while also encouraging our users — the custodians of our platform — to highlight the smallest of anomalies to us.”
While Zomato claims that they have a zero tolerance policy for tampering of food, the post hardly mentions anything about the reason this incident took place in the first place. Some internet users have strongly approved of the company sacking him, others are considering several possibilities and conditions that forced him to do something like this.
Here is what Twitteratis are saying:
For some reason my heart breaks every time I see the video and this man. I hope n pray he gets a job somewhere n leave this stigma behind him.
