In a peculiar set of rules, a Rajasthan community imposed new clauses for weddings that have been drawing a lot of attention.
A resolution passed by the Kumawat community stated that only clean-shaven youths will be allowed to get married. The said Panchayat in the state has decided to not let youths with beards get married and these guidelines have already been implemented in 19 villages in the Pali district.
“Fashion is ok but beard in the name of fashion for the groom is not allowed as the wedding is a sacrament and the groom is seen as a king in this, so he should be clean-shaven,” the resolution reads.
Community measures to curb wedding hassle and expenditure
The rules don’t just end there. These villages and their Panchayats have also decided to cut down the costs of weddings and make them simpler.
They have strongly objected to Bandoli DJ dances and further prohibited them. Selling and consumption of opium have also been banned during wedding.
To stop people from spending a fortune on clothes and decorations to organize theme-based Haldi ceremonies in the name of fashion, the community has imposed fine. Even the amount of gold and silver jewelry meant for the bride has also been determined. They have also restricted the number of food items served at weddings and other festivities.
These rules will have to be followed by not just the people living in Pali but by each and everyone who hail from the district. Over 20,000 people from the 19 villages of the Kumawat community have migrated to different cities of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and other states. They will also have to follow the rules laid down by the Panchayat even if they perform rituals in the cities they live in.
We must say that a bunch of such rules actually make sense and need to imposed or followed by the rest of the country.
