Rajat Rathor – The Making Of Singing Cop

“Most people think I am a cop who is interested in music. But it’s just the opposite. I am a musician who became a policeman by chance or fate. When on duty, I often carry my lathi in one hand and the guitar in the other. I do my job during the day and practice music at night,” shared Rajat Rathor with Life Beyond Numbers.

Rajat started early as a teenager, and music grew on him over the years. He was a star kid even as a student, courtesy: his singer mom.

“I began singing when I was in 9th standard. My mother used to be a singer; I grew up watching her sing. Initially, I used to perform in school, but I started doing it professionally when I was around 15. That was the first time I took up guitar. Even during my college days, I would spend most of my time with students of the music society,” told Rajat Rathore, the singing sensation.

Life was not always in his favor. He lost his dad at a very young age which became the reason for him to join Delhi Police.

“My father used to be a constable in Delhi Police before he died of jaundice in 2015. After his passing away, I applied for his position on compensation grounds a year later. I wanted to be a musician and excel in my career in the field, but my family wanted me to have a stable government job. After much thought and considering that every middle-class guy is bound to think of the bread and butter, I gave in. In 2017, my job application got accepted, and I joined the police force,” the constable narrated.

He, however, has no regrets today and considers his uniform to be the USP behind his popularity.

“My mother understood me. She loved singing and wanted me to pursue my passion along with career as a cop. I’m now glad that I have made this choice. Although I did not get into the force by choice, it is this uniform only that had earned me fame that I am getting today,” Rajat Rathor reasoned.

Soon Rajat started to get recognized by his colleagues in the department for his talent. He even sings at the events and functions of the Delhi Police.

“It was difficult in the beginning, but I have made peace with everything. Even people in the department have started recognizing my talent after I started posting my videos on the internet,” the cop said.

From A Delhi Police Cop To Internet Sensation

Rajat Rathor has been in the limelight every now and then on the internet for his melodious performances. But it is his viral song – Teri Mitti – that made him click, and he hasn’t looked back.

“My first video went viral where I sang the famous ‘Teri Mitti’ featuring Akshay Kumar during the lockdown period. It was also my first ever video in uniform. To my surprise, the video gathered more than 40,000 views within a few hours of posting and bulks of comments. Even Akshay Sir himself praised me and shared the clip on his Twitter handle. Soon Kartik Aryan and Tiger Shroff also shared the renditions featuring them on their social media platforms. Over time, people recognized me by the name ‘The Singing Cop’,” Rajat shared.

Rajat is also composing songs, one of which is out on his Youtube handle. We might expect some really good news from him this year.

“I visit Mumbai sometimes in my holidays or off days and meet up with fellow musicians. We are jamming and hopefully cooking up something interesting for our audience this year,” speculated the musician/cop.

“There is no limit to dreaming. One does not need to make a singular choice in life to excel. You can achieve anything if you have perseverance and do not stop trying,” he concluded.
