Making weddings memorable is something that any couple seeks. Yet lately there has been a significant evolution in the way people are trying to make a difference through their wedlock. From including widows of Vrindavan on their Big Day to applying Sindoor on each other, couples are preaching something valuable and impressionable that is breaking stereotypes for good. Of all, portraying equality amongst the groom and the bride and shedding other gender norms such as choosing a female priest has had the most immense impact on the way the world has conceived Indian weddings so far.
In a similar gesture, a bride and groom at Chamrajnagar in Karnataka tied mangalsutra around one another’s neck. The groom tied a conventional thaali (mangalsutra) across the bride’s neck, and the bride additionally tied a rudrakshi mangalasutra to the groom.
Named Prithvi and Shoba, the couple opted for an offbeat wedding shedding traditional rituals. The marriage took place amid the ‘vachanas’ that are sacred teachings of assorted saints throughout centuries. The couple took the oath of equality through both the gesture and citations.
Such a marriage is termed as Vachana Kalyanotsava, in which a couple takes oath on the strains of the vachanas.
As per reports, Prithvi is a younger farmer and has immense belief in the vachanas. His father, Honnuru Prakash, is the district head of the farmers’ union and so he understands their plight. There have been a number of cases in which farmers go bankrupt or incur a heavy debt simply to get married. With the intention to break that, he determined to begin a singular custom with his son.
He hopes that other couples will gradually observe this and lead a peaceful life.
