As the festival of Rakshabandhan approaches, an entrepreneur in Hyderabad has come up with a unique yet meaningful initiative of providing a 50 percent discount on the selling price of Rakhis to customers who have been fully vaccinated.

Mr. Pavan is doing so to encourage vaccination and show gratitude to those who had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The shopkeeper told ANI that this year they have been able to make good business as compared to the previous year when the lockdown was imposed.

“After verifying their vaccination certificate, we’ll give them a flat 50 per cent discount,” said Pavan.

Many Rakhi shops in and around Hyderabad are providing offers and discounts on rakhis.

In yet other news surrounding the celebrations, the women Self Help Group (SHG) from rural Odisha are making eco-friendly Rakhis from clay, Sabai grass, golden grass, waste paper, bamboo, different pulses, coconut shells, and other organic materials. This includes women from the districts of Khordha, Jaipur, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbahnj, and Keonjhar who have been making these Rakhis to spread awareness for a pollution-free environment. They have set up 18 stalls across the state and priced the products between Rs. 20 and Rs. 50. Around 2,000 women are working in the process.

Also, women and children up to 15 years will be provided free travel facility in Haryana state buses on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan so that sisters can visit their brothers’ homes and tie Rakhi. Buses will run at 50 percent of their seating capacity.
