As the Winter Holiday ends and New Year is about to commence here’s a piece of news that might amaze you. While some have the luxury of sending time outdoors, a lot of us are cooped up in our homes either because of the virus or some other hindrance. In such a case, a good holiday movie always comes to the rescue. Of all, ‘The Holiday’ (2006) is something we all remember for its unique and heart touching plot, and awesome cast.
If you remember, in the movie two women switch their homes to spend holiday and end up finding love. What if we told you that this happened for real? Well it actually did.
An American influencer got so inspired by the movie that she is swapping homes with a Britisher for this New Year Holiday. Named Grace Gagnon, the woman from Boston, Massachusetts posted a viral video asking if anyone would be willing to trade houses. In the video, she showed her cute apartment and just like that, she was flooded with responses.
“Anyone in England wants to switch places for the holiday? I have a studio apartment on Boston’s waterfront,” she wrote in the caption.
Having scrutinized thousands of offers, the 25-year-old agreed to swap with Florence Patterson, 22, from Bath, Somerset.
“I DM’d her straight away. It was sort of a whim for both of us but I just thought, why not. I think we’ve been stuck inside for so long that why not grab life and just do it. Just a different type of city I think will be amazing. So sort of high rise and things like that is just fascinating. And for Grace, I think it will be great to sort of seeing as a really, really amazing history of Bath,” she said in a media interview
These women decided to swap apartments with the company ‘Home Exchange’ helping facilitate the short-term trade.
Grace has been actively talking about her trip to England since agreeing to swap houses. She shares all the things she’s packing for her trip to Bath and receives a lot of inputs on social media. This includes a lot of ‘The Holiday‘ references in her videos. And yes, just like the movie, the women are flying over to different countries to find love.
Gagnon had to fly on 29th December for a two-week West Country adventure, Patterson is leaving for Boston on 2nd January.
About ‘The Holiday’
The Holiday directed by Nancy Meyers follows two strangers, Los Angeles-based movie trailers maker, Amanda (Cameron Diaz), and UK-based journalist, Iris (Kate Winslet). The women meet virtually on a home swapping website and decide to trade homes for the holidays to avoid seeing the men who broke their hearts.
