A book a day keeps ignorance away,
A book a day welcomes knowledge your way…

Not necessarily a book has to be read only to gain knowledge. Books can be read for pleasure as well. It can be your most interesting and engaging travel companion and all in all, your best friend. Children must be encouraged to read more and more of books as that helps and enhances their positive growth and molds their mind in a beautiful way.

This World Book Day, April 23, we advise parents, teachers, and other elders to help children develop the reading habit rather than letting them watch the idiot box or play games online for hours and hours.

Some books just cannot be forgotten and are simply unparalleled and treasured for a lifetime. Here are some priceless ones, which make you realize that childhood was the best thing that could have ever happened to you.

1. The Marvellous Fairy Tale Collection

The fairy tales always top the list. They make the imagination flow freely and sprinkle magic in the air. If I were in your place, I would never ever pass on, sell or throw away the books in which my favorite and endearing Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty reside.

2. The Thrilling Enid Blyton Stories

Aah! These are really one-of-a-kind. The mystery and the thrill we associate with The Famous Five and The Secret Seven, really unforgettable! Also, Blyton’s Malory Towers was an instant hit with the girls and some of the boys as well.

3. The Enchanting Harry Potter Favourite

Well, who is foolish enough not to include Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on the list? J.K. Rowling’s imagination worked wonders. Thanks to Harry Potter and Hogwarts. This was the first book of the Harry Potter collection, which went on to take the worldwide book industry by storm.

4. The Pleasant Roald Dahl Read

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reminds you of Johnny Depp. Right? Well, this is a must-read for children, irrespective of the fact whether they’re chocolate lovers or not. Also, Dahl’s Matilda is a good and lovely read.

5. The Delightful Chronicles of Narnia

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, is an all-time grand gift. Wow! I mean imagine an imaginary land ruled by a witch and filled with animals that talk! And what’s more, one gets to visit the land with the help of his wardrobe closet. Really creative, innovative and out-of-the-box!

6. The Amazing Warmth of Little Women

How I wish I could read this classic on a snowy evening by the fireplace! Yes, this book penned down by Louisa May Alcott portrays the journey of 4 sisters maturing from girls into women. It is a highly women-centric novel(supposedly based on Alcott’s life) with immense depth, which you normally get to see most in a story by a female author.

7. Charles Dickens’ Mature yet Enjoyable Classics

The two timeless classics, David Copperfield and Oliver Twist by Dickens, are brilliant gems. Beautifully crafted and bringing the characters to life, one needs to read both with tissues in hand due to the heart-wrenching emotional elements.

Four other books, which are worth mentioning are – The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Winnie-The-Pooh and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

I am missing my childhood already. Are you?
