Learn from the pink city of India how to counter eve-teasers. For those who don’t know, the term means “making of unwanted sexual remarks or advances by a man to a woman in a public place.”
A new batch of 20 biker-borne women constables was made part of the “Nirbhaya” squad on Tuesday, September 24 by the Jaipur Police department.
While speaking to TOI, Anand Srivastava, who is the Police commissioner of Jaipur mentioned that each bike will have two constables, which will make chasing eve-teasers easier. Adding to this he also mentioned that the women who are part of this squad are trained in martial arts so that they can counter any threat.
Prior to this, the women cops used to chase the eve-teasers on their scooters who patrolled vulnerable spots, but on Tuesday, September 24, chief minister of the state Ashok Gehlot instructed to give these women fresh bikes so that they can monitor the areas outside girls’ schools, colleges, bus stands, etc. To increase police visibility in the city, about 50 more bikes will be introduced.
“We have marked some vulnerable areas in Jaipur where Nirbahya squad will stand guard. We want to instill a sense of confidence amongst women that the police are always alert for their safety and security,” he said.
The best part is this squad is linked with Abhay command and control center of Jaipur police that will guide their movements. Also, the squad first came into effect in 2017 and to provide additional safety to women near movie theatres and parks, cops will patrol the area in dark blue uniforms.
