For the past 2 decades, this woman has been selling roasted corn outside Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha (State Legislative Assembly). But what is so unusual about that?

Well, 75-year-old Selvamma, a street vendor from Bangalore owns a cart that has got a tech upgrade! While the taste of the delicious corn remains the same, but the method to prepare them, however, is way too cool.

Imagine a solar-powered fan instead of a manual cane fan and coal to roast corn or grill, which is something used by most corn vendors in the country. The adjustable DC fan incorporated with a light-weight lithium-ion battery which also reduces the manual labor. Further, the light fixtures make it easy to work in the night.

The eco-friendly equipment was provided by SELCO Solar Light Pvt Ltd, a foundation that “seeks to inspire and implement socially, financially and environmentally inclusive solutions by improving access to sustainable energy.”

While speaking to ANI, Selvamma says, “I live in a nearby NGO. It was earlier a challenge for me to roast corn. After seeing my struggle, these people provided me with this machine.”

Thanks to SELCO, her situation has changed for the better now.

The post was shared by a Twitter user and it became viral in no time and shows how comfortably the old woman can now roast corn without hurting her hands. Not just that, it has saved her a lot of time and a scope to feed more customers waiting in the queue.
