Kuwar Amritbir Singh, also known as Amrit Umarwala, an eighteen-year-old from Gurdaspur district in Punjab has made his entry into the World Record India for performing 118 knuckle pushups in one minute.
Amrit broke the previous record of 32-years-old K J Yusuf who performed 82 knuckle pushups in a minute. With this, Amrit has become the youngest to achieve the record. Amrit attained the record last year but was awarded in the month of June this year.
He has been awarded the title of Youth Icon by the Gurdaspur District administration on the occasion of Independence Day this year for the same.
“I have always wanted to be a youth icon and prepared for the same. It was also my father’s dream that someone from my family achieves a world record. I am glad I made it happen,” speaking exclusively to LifeBeyondNumbers, Amrit said.
Amrit comes from a village named Umarwala situated in the Gurdaspur district. He has one younger brother and lives in a joint family. His father always wanted to achieve big in sports but could not do so due to family duties. He wanted Amrit to fulfill his dream.
“My father was very much into sports and used to perform very well at school and has got several prizes as well. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away and father had to take the responsibility of the entire family. He has always been an inspiration and pushed me towards making big,” says Amrit.
Amrit’s grandfather was the Sarpanch of the village and has a memorial to his name in the village. But Amrit was never inclined towards politics. He always wanted to do something different. A YouTube video on knuckle punching inspired him to crack a record.
“I want my village to be known by my name in the future. Unlike my grandfather, I was not inclined towards politics. I always wanted to do something different, be a youth icon. One day while searching the YouTube I saw knuckle punching. It was the first result in the list. Looking no further I made my mind to train for the same and crack a record,” he shared.
Amrit shared that he used to be a very bright student at his school and has even been house captain. The only thing he lacked was his scores in mathematics. Everyone used to presume that he won’t be successful in life. Braving all odds, Amrit made his way to sports. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Guru Nanak University.
“I was very good at school and used to bag a lot of prizes in sports but couldn’t perform much in mathematics. This made my teachers presume that I will be a failure. But I knew that I have to find my place. So, I chose knuckle punching and proved them wrong,” said Amrit.
For his training, Amrit has designed weights and equipment with household items, tyres, stones, bricks, etc. He trains solely by himself at home for about 6 hours a day. The local gymnasiums have awarded Amrit for his commendable efforts. He has also been extended support by the Indian Sports and Fitness Society (ISFS), Gleenz Peanut butter, Habhit Wellness, Strong Soul Clothing Brand, and Proathlix Official for his training.
Besides sports, Amrit has tried his hand to be a motivational speaker. He made a video against addiction on his YouTube channel. He is currently in the semi-finals of a reality show ‘Hunar Punjab’. In the future, he plans to work in films as well.
“Currently I am taking part in a reality show called Hunar Punjab. Due to Corona, we were submitting videos for the contest. I have already reached the semi-finals. Moreover, few Punjabi film directors have approached me to work for them. I plan to act in those as well,” he shared.
We wish you all the luck to achieve every goal you aim for in life. Keep inspiring the youth.
