While celebrations were observed across the world to mark International Women’s Day with the theme #BalanceForBetter, this year, Indian airlines too found unique ways to make it special for female travelers.
Vistara, AirIndia, GoAir, Air India, SpiceJet, JetAirways, you name it! All of them have bent their rules to make it memorable for women. Also, according to the India Today report, 12 special international flights took-off on March 8- Delhi-Sydney, Delhi-New York, Delhi-Chicago, Mumbai-London, Mumbai-Delhi-Shanghai, Delhi-Washington, Delhi-Rome, Delhi-London, Delhi-Paris, Mumbai-Newark, Mumbai-New York, and Delhi-San Francisco.
While Vistara became the first Indian airline to offer bio-degradable sanitary pads on flights, GoAir mentioned that they gave the complimentary upgrade to all female travelers- from economy class to business class, based on the “availability and on the first-come-first-serve basis”.
On this occasion, 22 SpiceJet flights were fuelled by women power as all female-crew operated. Apart from receiving a rose while boarding, the female flyers also had an option of priority check-in’ and ‘priority boarding’. Here too, SpiceMax seats were offered to female passengers depending on their availability.
Also, Jet Airways operated four domestic flights with an all-women crew, where they took part in ground handling, engineering, security too, mentions the report. To make it extra special, the officials also arranged surprise gift hampers for the female flyers. Further, it has also teamed up with NGOs that are dealing with women’s issues.
There is more. Alliance Air, which is the regional arm of Air India also operated an-all-women crew flight from New Delhi to Dharamsala and organized cultural programs at the airline’s office.
