It’s always frustrating when you enter an eating establishment and are unable to find a toilet.  Unfortunately, it can be difficult to know whether there should be a toilet up or not. This makes it hard to argue with the proprietor as you are unsure of the legal standing.

Fortunately, this will not be an issue in the future. There is a minimum number of Thule it’s required in any café bar or restaurant. If you are going to a small café you should not expect a toilet.

But, it is reasonable to expect a good level of cleanliness and then in every establishment you visit, regardless of size.  There are several ways you can confirm the café takes cleanliness seriously

Their Uniform

A good quality establishment will insist that the staff wear appropriate PPE workwear and that their uniforms are clean and tidy at all times.  If the staff take care of their own appearance, it is more likely that they will take care of the café and the necessary hygiene tasks.

A well-presented uniform also helps to ensure that the café looks professional and inviting.

Awareness Of Toilets

If the toilet is important when you visit a café, you must consider using a larger cafe, or establishing where the nearest toilets are.

This is also an important consideration when visiting a takeaway. This type of establishment is unlikely to offer enough seats to need to legally provide a toilet. However, this doesn’t mean that they won’t have a toilet or that there won’t be one in the vicinity.

Regulation Changes

It is worth noting that the regulations are constantly being reviewed. There is the talk of introducing a legal requirement to have a toilet available if you allow food to be eaten on your premises; This means even if you offer just one seat to a customer.

Of course, the logical extension of this is that foods that tolerate eating will also need to provide toilets, even if they do not sell the produce.

It may even be necessary to consider the rules regarding when stores offer samples for tasting, does this classify as eating on the premises?

Unfortunately, such a ruling, if it were ever to come into force, could potentially cause the shutdown of many small establishments. It’s not because providing a toilet is an issue or keeping it clean. The problem would result from the reduced space available to seat customers and the effective loss of revenue.

Before you complain that your local café hasn’t got a toilet, consider whether you’d rather have a local café or not.
