If you are living in India, by now there is no way that you are not aware of the price of this fruit. It may usually vary from 5 rupees to 10 rupees. But no way it can cost you about $120,000 (over Rs.85 lakh) right? But, recently a video on Instagram went viral and for all the wrong reasons.
In case you don’t believe us, recently at Miami’s Art Basel, an art installation by an artist named Maurizio Cattelan titled ‘Comedian’ was on display and it featured a banana taped to a wall with duct tape. But, what happened later was hilarious. A man walked inside the gallery, pulled it off the wall and ate it in full public view. Later, it was found out that it was Georgian-born American artist David Datuna, who ate it. Not only multiple people posted the video, Datuna too posted it. He also termed his eating of the banana as a performance artwork titled ‘Hungry Artist’.
The viral video got more than 17k likes on Instagram and is making people laughing out loud. According to numerous reports, the artist was escorted by the gallery officials and security, probably for questioning and then he was escorted out of the venue as well.
In an interview with ‘Miami Herald’, Lucien Terras, the director of museum relations for Galerie Perrotin said, “He did not destroy the artwork. The banana is the idea,” and it was meant to be replaced after 15 minutes and a new one was to be taped in its place. He further mentioned that no action was planned against Datuna.
Well, the story doesn’t end here and on Sunday, the displaying banana on the wall was again vandalized by a man who wrote ‘Epstein didn’t kill himself’ using red lipstick. He was later detained on charges of criminal mischief, reported the same media outlet.

But, apart from the good, bad and ugly, this incident did trigger a meme fest online, and did offend some people as well because of the food crisis around the world, but netizens are having a blast because of this. Check out some reactions here-
What a joke. Not art. Glad someone called it out pic.twitter.com/P4zLxnCOlK

If that banana taped to a wall was art, then surely this guy eating it was art too

Best thing I have seen in a long time. Should have happened the second it sold like banksey. If you have 120k to blow on a banana and Duct tape and are not using it to help others, then you deserve this. It’s an obnoxious display of wealth when people are starving.

Best display at the entire exhibit… The only thing in the place that I’d pay a full $.50 for. It’s not art… it’s just a snack held in a convenient location.
