Sharing is Good Karma:

Being rich or wealthy is not a prerequisite to helping others. All you need is an intentHere’s a story that justifies this statement!

Corona has left us all with some painful and sad memories. However, along with those heavy moments, we have also seen lots of compassion, humanity, and the deep connection that emerged during the tough times. Dr. Neha, a gynecologist from Ahmedabad, shared a wonderful experience with Life Beyond Numbers

During Corona, she was disturbed by the situation and wanted to help in any way possible. Being a doctor, she knew a lot of people who needed it. Her main intention was to find people who genuinely needed help but hesitated to ask for it. Out of the people she knew, she finalized a few couples who could use some help in getting groceries.

Out of all the couples, she always remembered the experience she had with one of the couples – Shankar dada and Sushilaben. She shares the story of this aged couple who lived alone in Ahmedabad. They were simple, satisfied, and down-to-earth.

We made a grocery kit with ingredients for one year and included oil, wheat flour, rice, dal, and other basic ingredients needed for cooking. The couple informed us about their diabetes and less consumption of rice. They returned the packet of rice on the spot. So, we told them to take something else instead of rice, shared Dr.Neha.

After this conversation, the reply that came from the lady was something that touched Dr. Neha’s heart. The lady named Sushilaben said,

“Do one thing, instead of rice, give us some jawar and bajra for our kids. We have pigeons, myna, and sparrows that visit us daily. We don’t have anything for them as of now. It would be great if we could take some food for them too. We don’t want anything extra instead of rice for ourselves.”

Small acts of kindness

This act of kindness shows the intention that the couple had. A human with uncertainty about the future generally saves and collects for oneself. However, this couple chose to think about the birds instead of themselves.

Life Beyond Numbers communicated with this aged couple to know their experience. On being asked about this incident, they shared,

“We have been feeding our kids for 25 years. We never call them birds. They are our kids and part of our family. My husband had a job before Corona, but it didn’t continue after the pandemic. Things became hard for us. However, the universe sent help in multiple ways. We always made sure of one thing. Whatever food we have, we share it with our kids as well. ”

This couple believes that just like parents take care of their kids, they take care of these birds. Come what may, they will always manage and find a way. Feeding them is never an option but their priority.

This story brings us to a small but profound realization that whenever you feel insecure, compassion is the cure. Out of sheer lack and scarcity, we end up getting irritated a lot of times. Whereas couples like Shankar dada and Sushilaben teach us that scarcity is merely a state of mind. If you choose to give from whatever you have, you will never have to wait to get wealthy to do good deeds and feel satisfied.

“The gratitude they had in whatever they got inspired them to give from what they had”
