This Tuesday, India woke up to another tragic news of the year. The legendary Urdu poet, Rahat Indori, who was being treated for Covid-19, died from a heart attack.

Hours before his sad demise, the 70-year-old poet cum lyricist had informed his fans on Twitter that he was tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing some initial symptoms. Dr. Indori was admitted to Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences, Indore where he breathed his last.

He suffered from two heart attacks and had 60 percent pneumonia.

Rahat Indori, the gem we lost

He was born in Indore on January 1, 1950. Rahat Indori was a former professor of Urdu language and a painter. Besides this, he was a pedagogist of Urdu literature at Devi Ahilya University, Indore.

Indori was awarded a Ph.D. in Urdu literature from the Bhoj University of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 for his thesis titled Urdu Main Mushaira.

He has performed in Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan from the last 40 – 45 Years. For this, Rahat Indori has traveled widely attending poetic symposiums in almost all the districts of India and countries like the USA, UK, UAE, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Mauritius, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc.

His poem Bulati Hai Magar Jaane Ka Nahi got viral in TikTok and started trending on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in February 2020. People started using this phrase in memes.

Dr. Rahat has also penned lyrics for several Bollywood movies including “Khuddar”,Munna Bhai M.B.B.S” and “Murder” among others. He has a total of 29 songs to his credit.
