Vidai is supposed to be the most emotional moment when a bride leaves her parents to go to her in-laws. Lately, women in India have been breaking stereotypes and smiling wide in their wedding photographs instead. The shy, tender bride is now in full bloom, acting like a strong yet sensitive and sensible woman.

One such bride is Celebrity Chef Sneha Singhi from Kolkata. She was recently seen driving her husband’s car on Vidai to go to her Sasural. Her video has been going viral on social media platforms and people have been thoroughly lauding her for her unique gesture.

LifeBeyondNumbers connected with her to know a bit more about the wonderful woman and what inspired her to drive to her Sasural after vidai.

Sneha Singhi is a well-known chef in the City of Joy. The owner of Paris Café and Le Studio has been awarded the BBC Pastry Chef of the Year and East India, Young Restaurateur of the Year. Her cakes have been savored by the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Katrina Kaif, and Hrithik Roshan.

She was always fond of cooking. At the tender age of four, she used a stool to reach the kitchen counter and roll out the batter for chocolate-chip cookies. As a ten-year-old, Sneha could make Biryani and Raita and in her teens, she cooked entire feasts for friends and family. Gradually by the age of nineteen, she decided to make this her career.

But Sneha was then a student of journalism at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. Yet her dream made her ultimately reach France to pursue Diplôme de Pâtisserie and a Diplôme de Cuisine at Le Cordon bleu. She has also interned with French pastry chef, Pierre Herme, in Paris. Sneha worked her way up to follow her raison d’etre courageously.

Her road had a small bump though when she was about to convince her dad to follow her ambition.

My mom has been very supportive about my career choice and so was my dad. But initially, he had doubts about my success. I deliberately got myself suspended from Xavier’s college and got into a tussle with him. That night I cooked Veg Biryani and my dad took the very first bite and uttered, ‘Go chase your dreams’. Since then there has been no looking back. He even funded my studies, restaurant, everything. Today, as the whole of the city knows me for my work, they are rather proud of me”, shared Singhi.

The star baker got hitched recently on 13th February at Kolkata with the love of her life, Saugat Upadhyay. They dated for 8 long years and had full support from the family until they reached the isle. She posted the video and pictures only recently after she received them from the wedding photographer.

But the peculiar thing about their relationship is that Saugat would never drive. He had a chauffeur to the task instead. So, since their first date, it was Sneha who would drive him around and that was such a regular thing that it happened at the wedding as well.

I have been driving for Saugat for almost 8 years now. So, I got this spontaneous feeling of repeating the occurrences of our first date on our marriage. Before anyone got into the car, I took the wheel out of habit and they were a bit shocked but then my brother-in-law was pretty cool. He sat in the back seat and asked me to drive. My husband asked if I was sure, and then I was like, yes! What’s even more amazing thing about this marriage is that Saugat lives just 5 minutes away from my parent’s place. I was so overjoyed at that moment. My sister even asked me to bid goodbye, but I just wanted to drive and fly away”, explained the now Mrs. Upadhyay.

Sneha and Saugat’s wedding had even more adventures like handpicked songs played by the celebrity orchestra of Debojyoti Ghosh for each occasion and a 25-member honeymoon in the Maldives with friends.

I wanted to thank each and every person who made this marriage happen so I tagged everyone along,” said Sneha.

The reason why brides are happier these days is that the majority of them have consent in their marriages and it happens out of love and personal liking,” explains the bubbly bride.

Well, of course, these days even in arranged marriages families are letting the bride and groom spend some time and get to know each other beforehand. So, yes it’s not a sad affair anymore but a promising one.

Amazing right? Are you thinking of firing your driver already?
