Who thought marriage can be a platform for social work? A bride from Kolkata did!
On Friday, July 9, in an unusual wedding in Nadia’s Tehatta about 30 people including the bride’s friends and relatives donated blood as the bride was determined to do something good for the society.
While talking to TOI, Soumita Mondal said, “My only condition was to arrange a blood donation camp. I told my parents not to give any gold ornaments. I want to serve the society, especially now when there is blood crisis. I wanted to do my bit.”
The parents were ecstatic to hear this and abiding by his daughter’s demand, the bride’s father, Subinay Mondal, who is a teacher called the doctors and paramedics to ensure that there is no hassle on the day of the wedding.
Soumita is an engineer by profession and this is the only condition she had for marriage with Arpan Hazra, another engineer from Sodepur.
A local lodge was booked for the wedding and the blood donation camp was held in the same premises from 10 am, which ended five hours later. Soumita’s mother Dalia was the first to donate blood.
