What will you do when all speeches about sanitation and hygiene fail to create awareness among people? You take a cue from Bollywood songs and start singing them. We are not joking and neither does this sanitation worker from Pune.

Mahadev Jadhav took a classic Bollywood song and changed its lyrics to spread awareness about cleanliness and waste management.

Mahadev Jadhav, a sanitation worker who has been working with the Pune Municipal Corporation for 25 years creates awareness about cleanliness and waste disposal, through songs.

For the past 25 years, he has been working with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and believes that the whole idea of waste disposal is slowly changing for the better.

In an interview with ANI, Jadhav mentioned that he started singing on his own so that he can reach out to more people. “….to create awareness among people as to where to put dry and wet waste, so the Corporation and the people can work together to solve the problem,” he said.

This man shows the mirror to the rich and educated on garbage segregation.

He chose a popular Bollywood classic song ‘Kajra Mohabbat Wala’ and tweaked its lyrics to make people understand the importance of segregating waste. Song’s new lyrics became Kachra, sookha aur Geela, sabne mila ke daala… (Dry and wet waste, everyone mixed it together).”

Further, to warn people about the use of plastic bags, he sang another line- “Carry bag, ye plastic wala, isko aadat kar dala, aadat ne le li sabki jaan… (This carry bag made of plastic; this habit will kill us all).

The ban on single-use plastic and thermocol items were issued a year back, but people have turned a deaf ear to this issue. Alternative products that can counter plastic are available in the market, why are we not using them instead and keep our environment clean?
