Environmental NGOs, Mission Green Mumbai, and Tree Ambulance Foundation have joined hands to plant lakhs of mango trees across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and other rural areas across the country. For this, they have asked citizens to send them mango seeds which they will develop into saplings and do the plantation.
The initiative was started by Mr. Subhajit Mukharjee (Ambassador Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan), Mumbai.
After consuming a mango, one is supposed to cleanse and dry the seed till it’s fit for transport and plantation and send it to these NGOs who will take care of the aforestation.
“We urge you to donate mango seeds to us after cleaning and drying them and we will make saplings and gift it to the farmers of India. These trees will not only give us cleaner air and oxygen but also bear fruits that will pay the farmers and citizens who plant it”, says Mr. Mukharjee.

More about mango tree plantation drive 2021
Till now, the mango tree plantation drive 2021 has received over 8000 mango seeds of different varieties from the cities. The target desired by Mr. Mukharjee is to create a Mango forest with 360,000 mango seeds.
The move first started in Mumbai after the BMC urged citizens to adopt a tree over the loss of green cover due to Cyclone Tauktae. Later on, Delhi and Chennai joined in with the collaboration of Tree Ambulance under Atul Pandey. The mango seed collection initiative is now spreading Wings in Kolkata where they are getting great support to plant lacks of mango trees. Now more NGOs are starting to join the cause from various cities, informed Mr. Pandey.
Taking the movement a step forward, they have already planted thousands of trees like mango, neem, guava etc.
The collection will be till July and with the arrival of monsoon maximum plantation will be done, informs Mr. Atulya.
Mission GREEN Mumbai is a Citizen’s Movement to protect and plant trees, and spread environmental awareness.
Likewise, Tree Ambulance is an initiative that started in New Delhi and spread to other metro cities to increase the tree cover.
