New Delhi: After leaving too many questions unanswered in Ponniyin Selvan I, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is set to satiate our curiosity or create more from 28th April onwards.
The entire star cast of Ponniyin Selvan 2 was in the capital to promote the film and was aware that it must have been difficult for the North Indian audience to comprehend a down South film.
“Five books are adapted into two parts, and there is a minimal recap, so one has to do their homework before they see the second part,” says Sobhita Dhulipala, who plays Vaanathi in the film.
When Karthi Sivakumar was asked how he prepared for the role and how does it feel to portray a pivotal character who is almost a “sootradhaar” (facilitator) in the film, Karthi responded, “Ponniyin Selvan 1 was an introduction to the characters, the drama unfolds in part 2.”
“All the unexpected plot shown in the Ponniyin Selvan 2 trailer will be unveiled in part 2,” he added.

Ponniyin Selvan is based on the historical, fictional novel which was written by Kalki 70 years ago. The novel revolves around the succession battle in the Chola Dynasty in the 10th Century CE. Part 1 of the movie stages the early life of the Chola prince Arulmozhi Varman and the ascendency of Rajaraja Chola to the throne.
“Mani sir and the team did all the research for the film, and they provided all the relevant reference materials. As actors, we did study the history of the 10th Century to come close to the era,” Karthi responded when asked how the star cast prepared themselves to get the mannerisms and the nuances of the Chola Dynasty.
While the film stars some of the biggest names in South Cinema, it also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini- one of the prominent characters in the movie.
The magnum opus is set to release on 28th April and will be the first film from South India to have a release in 4DX across India.
Regarding the box-office collection, Ponniyin Selvan 1 became the highest Tamil movie grosser, entering the 500 crores (INR) club.
