“Watan ke aage kuch nahi, kuch bhi nahi!”
The intense Raazi Trailer sure packs a punch!!!
Yes! We all know what Alia Bhatt is capable of. And she proves it once again with her upcoming film, Raazi, to be released on May 11, 2018. She plays the role of the path-breaking Indian protagonist, ‘Sehmat’, a young girl who is married off to a Pakistani Army officer by her father, and wants her to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of her nation as an Indian spy. And hey, wait! If you’re thinking this is pure fiction, please think again.
Raazi is a true story of ‘an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances’, who ends up being nothing short of an unsung hero for her country. For instance, how many of us knew about ‘Sehmat’ before Raazi happened? Also, this espionage drama is based on Harinder Sikka’s bestselling novel – Calling Sehmat.
The real-life Sehmat was a Kashmiri Muslim, who belonged to an affluent business family. She helped the Indian Intelligence by marrying a Pakistani army officer to get some top secret information at the time of the 1971 war. The key information provided by her was that Pakistan was conspiring to sink INS Viraat (now decommissioned), but thanks to her, the Indian Navy’s pride was saved. Author Sikka changed her name to Sehmat Khan in his novel for secrecy and safety purposes.
Coming to the trailer, it is bound to awaken the fiery patriot in you. The gripping and thrilling plot showcasing the Indo-Pak tension sure gives you goosebumps. The way Alia portrays three aspects of her role – a daughter, a wife, a spy – makes her go ten notches higher up from her brilliant performance in Udta Punjab. She’s torn apart between her wifely duties and her love for her nation, and Alia really strikes the right chord as the emotional, yet firm Sehmat. Not to forget, the power-packed contribution of the Masaan actor Vicky Kaushal, who plays the role of a Pakistani Army officer and the lead opposite Alia. He expresses through his eyes and shares a red-hot chemistry with her. His screen presence is awesome.
The high-octane action-packed trailer also lets you have a look at the performance of veteran acting powerhouse, Rajit Kapur, who plays Alia’s father, along with solid support from Jaideep Ahlawat and Shishir Sharma.
Director Meghna Gulzar belts out an asset in the form of Raazi, which promises to be the next masterpiece of a movie. Post the immense success of Talvar, and after watching the trailer of this much-awaited film, she can be touted as a sheer cinematic genius.
Produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions, Raazi is slated to release on May 11, and the temperatures are soaring high, as the Raazi fever completely engulfs, in spite of the much happening IPL season.
This one’s not to be missed.
