As the Wedding Season continues, and we all continue to get mushy, we have witnessed something heartwarming and meaningful in the crowd of millions of marriages.
And that has been brought out by Bollywood Singer Shalmali Kholgade, who tied the knot with her long-term boyfriend Farhan Shaikh in an intimate ceremony at her residence on November 22. Taking to Instagram, she shared details of the occasion that has left a mark in all hearts.
Shalmali’s wedding was very private, attended by close family members. As seen in the pictures in her post, she adorned an orange saree with a bird motif, and Farhan wore a matching orange kurta. This is where things start to get interesting. The duo chose to ditch traditional flower garlands and replaced them with a couple of customized garlands using pompoms and polaroid pictures of their favorite memories.
Besides this, what sets them apart is that their marriage was a symbolic representation of communal harmony. They belong to different religions, so their weddings happen twice, both in Hindu and Muslim rituals. The couple was seen performing the wedding prayer with a small fire pit set up in the room. At the same time, they also performed a Nikaah. On top of it all, the Nikahnama and Saptapadi were translated into English.

“I love that this picture sums up my favorite quality in @farhanfshaikh – Compassion. We wanted a Hindu and a Muslim ritual at our wedding. Farhan’s brother-in-law @abdullahusman was kind enough to recite a Dua, conduct an English translation of Nikaah, and then did recited Al-Fatihah,” Shalmali wrote, sharing a picture from the Nikaah.
The Nikaah was followed by Hindu marriage that was conducted by none other than Shalmali’s own father.
“My incredible Father conducted the Lajja Hom and Saptapadi with an English translation. As complete as complete can be was what our wedding was. I still can’t get over how wholesome it was!!” she wrote.
The newlywed received tremendous support and love from the music industry and netizens at large.
Singer Shilpa Rao wrote, “Bahut bahut pyaar dono ko (Sending you lots of love.)”
Music Director Salim Merchant called the wedding ‘beautiful.’
Likewise, Shibani Dandekar wrote, “So stunning all of it congratulations to you both. Nothing but love.”
