Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis for seven years now, each step tested my determination and resilience. Undeterred, I embarked on this solo journey, fully aware that it would demand everything I had.

Me standing tall against all the odds…

The Ascent – Stepping Towards Triumph

As I began the ascent of the Tiger’s Nest Trek, a mix of anticipation and apprehension filled me. The initial challenge came in the form of 400 steps leading upward and 300 steep steps downward. Each step tested the resilience of my joints, serving as a reminder of the Rheumatoid Arthritis that accompanied me on this journey. Despite the discomfort, I adjusted my pace and focused on maintaining a steady rhythm.

The breathtaking vistas of surrounding mountains and lush greenery throughout the Tiger’s Nest Trek provided moments of respite and motivation. The camaraderie among fellow trekkers created a sense of unity and support, fuelling my determination. However, Isha Chakraborty, a fellow trekker, went above and beyond by accompanying me during the descent. Her unwavering support and presence ensured I was okay at every step of the way. And, of course, my tour guide @happiness_is_a_place kept pushing me and gave a round of applause at the end of the trek. I am forever grateful to both of you.

Reaching the summit after climbing up down 700 steps was an extraordinary achievement. The Tiger’s Nest Monastery stood proudly on the cliff, a testament to the indomitable spirit within each of us. It symbolized triumph over physical limitations and served as a reminder of the incredible strength of the human spirit.

The Descent – Battling Through The Pain

Descending the Tiger’s Nest Trek presented its own set of challenges, particularly for my feet. As I began the descent of 400 steps down and 300 steps up, I noticed increasing discomfort in my feet, intensifying with each step. Acknowledging the pain, I decided to take a break, allowing myself time to regain energy and adjust my walking style.

After a brief respite, I resumed my journey, determined to overcome the hurdles. The descent required a careful balance of caution and determination as I navigated the treacherous terrain. The 1400 steps up and down in total were physically demanding, but the captivating scenery served as a reminder of the beauty awaiting me at the trail’s end.

Despite persistent foot pain, the desire to quit never took hold. With a corrected walking form from a fellow trekker, I pressed on, step by step, through the Tiger’s Nest Trek.

As I made my way down the rocky path, I could feel its toll on my feet and joints. The constant impact and strain began to cause discomfort, making each step increasingly arduous. I had to adjust my pace, carefully choosing my footing to minimize the impact on my body.

Despite the physical discomfort and the exhaustion that had settled in, I persevered. I focused on maintaining a steady and controlled descent, taking breaks when necessary to relieve the strain on my body. The completion of the marked a significant milestone, signaling that I had triumphed over the most challenging sections of the trek. With each step I took on my way down, I gained a renewed sense of strength and determination, proving to myself that I had the resilience to overcome any obstacle in my path.

Lessons Learned And What Kept Me Going

In the face of Rheumatoid Arthritis, I discovered that one can conquer even the most challenging adventures with proper preparation and a determined mindset. My regular strength training with a personal trainer and the change in my medical treatment helped me complete this trek successfully.

Throughout my ascent and descent, a powerful source of motivation and strength resonated within me through my Buddhist chanting- “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.”

As I climbed up the treacherous trails and descended the challenging steps, my chanting became a steady rhythm synchronizing with my breath and footsteps.
